Potentials and problems of teaching design thinking as massive open online courses in the Chinese context

Though design thinking has gained increasing popularity in higher education, few studies have explored how it is perceived and taught non-western contexts. This study identified reviewed twenty related courses offered as MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) by instructors from a number of Chinese universities between February June 2020. Further, we selected six these for in-depth analysis reviewing the cases examples introduced course videos. Our findings reveal absence well-stated learning outcomes, lack diversity when comes to cultural contexts areas covered all MOOCs. We propose three recommendations future DT-related context, terms situating teaching wider curriculum structure, integrating more active peer components create better flipped experiences, cases. Apart supplementing current case studies, this research can shed light on why be modified different contexts, achieve quality rather than simply borrowing much-hyped concept.
